Construction CFO & Accounting Pricing

Most firms hide their pricing until you’ve sat through a sales call. Here’s what to expect, by revenue band.

Wilburn CPA is a CPA firm that only serves residential builders, remodelers, cabinet shops and trades contractors. Your job costing, your WIP schedule and your tax return come from one firm that does nothing but construction.

Is this you?

You run a residential building, remodeling, cabinet or trades business doing $2M–$15M a year. You’re busy, but you can’t say which jobs actually made money, and cash is tighter than your P&L says it should be. Under $2M? We quote cleanup and tax work as a project, so call and we’ll scope it.

How our pricing works

Your revenue sets your band. The scope you need sets your tier. At your revenue level you see three options, so you pick the help you need instead of taking one take-it-or-leave-it number. Your exact fee is set in a written proposal after a free discovery call.

Three options, one clear ladder

Monthly fees by revenue band

Annual revenueStarting monthly fee
$2.0M – $3.5MFrom $2,500/mo
$3.5M – $6.0MFrom $3,650/mo
$6.0M – $9.0MFrom $4,900/mo
$9.0M – $15.0MFrom $6,650/mo

Where you land depends on the tier you choose and on how complex your business is: open jobs, entities, monthly transaction volume, payroll headcount and whether you already have a bookkeeper. Your exact fee is in your proposal.

What it costs to do this in-house

Roles like controller and CFO don’t come in fractions. You can’t hire a third of a controller. Here’s what the equivalent hires cost compared with our annual fee.

Your bandIn-house equivalent, per year (loaded)Our annual fee
$2.0M – $3.5M$110,500 – $201,500From $30,000
$3.5M – $6.0M$143,000 – $409,500From $43,800
$6.0M – $9.0M$143,000 – $409,500From $58,800
$9.0M – $15.0M$143,000 – $429,000From $79,800

In-house figures are 2026 Oklahoma market salaries (ZipRecruiter and Indeed) multiplied by 1.30 for benefits and overhead, based on BLS employer cost data. The low end of each in-house range is the hire our Core scope replaces (an accounting manager or a controller). The high end is what our CFO Partner scope replaces (a bookkeeper plus controller, or a bookkeeper, controller and CFO). Our fee shown is the starting point. Not every contractor needs every seat, so this shows what it would cost to cover the same work in-house.

What salary figures leave out: recruiter fees of 20–30% of first-year salary, 3–6 months to fill an accounting seat, ramp time on your cost codes, and the risk that one bookkeeper quitting or going on leave stops your books.

At $9M–$15M, you can justify a controller. The case for us there is different: our Advisory scope costs less than one controller’s loaded cost, and CFO Partner costs only modestly more than one controller and adds the CFO seat.

Getting started: setup plus catch-up

Onboarding has two parts, so you pay for what you need:

1. Setup and implementation (fixed). Chart of accounts rebuild, cost code architecture, job-cost to general ledger mapping, opening WIP and ASC 606 setup, your 13-week cash model, training and procedures. A fixed fee that doesn’t change with how far behind your books are, billed half at signing and half at go-live.

2. Historical cleanup (by the month). If your books are behind, catch-up is priced by the month of work needed. Four months behind costs more than one. We quote it after we look at your books.

Your proposal shows setup and catch-up as separate lines, so you know what is fixed and what depends on the condition of your books.

Add-ons (priced separately)

Add-onStarting at, by revenue band
Business income tax returnFrom $2,250/yr
Owner individual return (1040)From $850/yr
Tax reduction planningFrom $2,250/yr
Certified payroll reportingFrom $350/mo

Tax returns are not included in the monthly fee unless you add them. Exact add-on pricing is confirmed in your proposal.

Not included

Payroll processing, legal review of lien waivers, sales and use tax, and IRS representation. We track lien waivers but don’t give legal opinions on them.

Software

QuickBooks Online and JobTread are licensed in your name and billed to you directly. Subscription costs are not part of our fee. See how we set up JobTread and QuickBooks Online to work together.

Terms in plain English

  • 12-month minimum.
  • Fees are reviewed annually and as your revenue grows.
  • The setup fee is non-refundable.
  • Full terms are in your proposal and engagement letter.

Why contractors choose Wilburn CPA

  • One niche. Construction is the only industry we serve. Other Tulsa firms list it as one of a dozen.
  • CPA, CFO and tax in one firm. WIP, ASC 606 and your return from the same people.
  • JobTread Certified Bookkeeper. We build cost codes and WIP schedules around how JobTread tracks a job, then reconcile them to QuickBooks Online.

What clients say

Why cash runs short on profitable jobs: a $400,000 subcontract running exactly to budget ties up about $55,000 of working capital two months in. Three at once ties up $165,000. Illustrative example, not a client result.

Common questions

Why not hire a bookkeeper? A bookkeeper records what happened. We build the job-cost and WIP structure, produce the management reports you run the business on, and advise on what to do next.

Do you prepare my taxes? Yes, as an add-on. Business returns, owner 1040s and tax reduction planning are priced above as starting points.

What if my books are months behind? That’s the cleanup line. You pay by the month of catch-up, quoted after we review your books.

Do you work outside Tulsa? Yes. We’re based in Tulsa and serve all of Oklahoma and contractors across the Central Time Zone, virtually.

What happens as I grow? Your fee is reviewed as your revenue grows, and any change is spelled out in your proposal and engagement letter.
